About UCC Library

The Aaron Joseph Matalon Library is a cornerstone of academic life at the University of the Commonwealth Caribbean (UCC), providing essential support to students, faculty, researchers, and staff across the Main and Regional Campuses. Strategically located on the second floor of the Knowledge and Innovation Building, the Library functions as a forward-thinking academic hub committed to excellence in teaching, learning, research, and innovation. The library is more than just a repository of books; it’s a living, breathing academic ecosystem.

The Aaron Joseph Matalon Library has embraced its evolution into a hybrid learning environment, where traditional collections meet cutting-edge digital tools. Users benefit from a seamless blend of physical resources and technologies like AI-driven research assistants, Open Educational Resources (OERs), cloud-hosted databases, and Open Access platforms—all aligned with international academic standards to ensure timely and equitable access to knowledge.

In 2022, the Library was renamed in honor of Aaron Joseph Matalon—a notable Jamaican entrepreneur, philanthropist, and nation-builder. This tribute not only commemorates his enduring impact on education and civic life but also resonates with UCC’s broader mission to safeguard and celebrate national heritage through institutional stewardship.

Today, the Aaron Joseph Matalon Library remains deeply committed to its core goals:

  • Empowering student success through tailored research support and hands-on academic workshops.
  • Leading the charge in digital innovation by integrating AI tools, bibliometric analytics, and institutional repositories.
  • Championing inclusivity with barrier-free access to services, regardless of a user's geographic location.
  • Enriching faculty research by connecting them with platforms that support scholarly communication and publication.

As UCC continues to grow and broaden its academic footprint, the Library stays nimble—anchored in tradition yet continuously evolving. It’s not just a space for study; it’s a catalyst for learning, exploration, and the kind of academic discovery that shapes future leaders.
